Hope someone can point me in the right direction :)

I am currently on sky broadband, and because of that I have to use their modem.

Problem is, its not fast enough to stream wireless HD content.

What I want to do is turn the wireless off on the sky modem and use another wireless access point that is faster and connect it to the sky modem to get the internet access.

Is that even possible, and if so, what would I need and how hard is it to setup?

Thanks :)

Its quite easy to set up. You disable the Sky wireless via the web config page and then attach the new wireless access point with a cat5/rj45 cable to the router. It should give itself an IP automatically or you may need to plug the AP into your PC first to set it up. Eitherway, it would be best to go in to the router and under attached devices and always give the AP the same internal IP. There will be a web config page for the AP as well, so you can set up the normal wireless options on it, like the wireless channel, security settings etc.

Access Points tend to be quite expensive, so it may end up about the same price to replace the router itself.

There is nothing I would like more than to replace the router that sky have provided. Problem is that it is in the terms and conditions that I have to use their one so I dont get much of a choice.

Is there any that you could recommend to do what I need. It would be nice if it was wireless N as I have a wireless N adapter in my pc at the moment that is connected at 54MB/s.

Edimax are cheap and cheerful, you will probably have issues with them (I supplied them for a short time and had a lot of issues).

I would recommend this - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW-151-NG&groupid=46&catid=1596&subcat=1615 - it isn't an access point but will do the same job. You will need to connect it to your PC first and disable DHCP (this is the bit that gives all your PCs an IP - which is already being done by the Sky router) but can then just connect it to the Sky Router.

ok. Is netgear that much better though? I only ask because I havent heard much about them and a few people on here said that edimax was ok.
That said if you say that netgear is better then I will get that one as you are bound to know more about this than me :)

I can only go by past experience :) Did the explanation on how to connect it up make sense?

Yes, your explanation was great. As much as I have never done anything like this before I am a fast learner, and as long as I have the right equipment that does what I need it to then I will find a way to do it. Hopefully this will enable me to stream media around my house without it stuttering. :D
