should I be able to play FPS games online lag free with a wireless router? I've currently got a dlink dsl G604t ADSL router and even when using a laptop in the next room every 30 seconds or so there is a terrible lag spike I think caused by the a short interuption in the wireless stream. Has anyone found this issue with wireless routers in general or is this router in particular a problem?

I play BF2 with wireless and dont have any problems, however it entirely depends on how far you are from your router and whats in the way.

if you have a bad signal on wireless then you will get lag, if you have constant "Excellent" signal then all is good.

Like The_KiD said. My wireless AP used to be quite far from my pc, downstairs and on the other side of the house. I used to get a really bad signal with it constantly dropping out. I had a lot of trouble conencting in games.

Since moving it into another room with a longer network cable i now have a constant 'Excellent' signal which never drops out and gives me excellent pings etc.

I did have any problems playing bf2 or rainbow six on wireless. im on wired now anyway, think my pci car was faulty and the poor signal was limiting my net speed down to 1mb.

Get some HomePlug adapterrs if its just for hooking your desktop up to your local network, had a pair for myself for linking my office in my garage to my house and its been far better than the WiFi ever was.

Im using the Solwise 200Mbit ones by the way.
