Wireless problem with Vista

I have just loaded Vista on to my workshop PC and dual boot with XP.

Now XP connects wirelessly to my Linksys WRT54GS with no problems yet Vista doesn't seem to want to connect.

What's interesting is that I can connect to other peoples "Unsecured" connections with full access but not mine which is encryped. It accepts the keyphase, then comes back with limited or no connectivity. However, on trying once, it came back with "Local" connection only but I'm still unable to connect to shared folders on the home PC or the internet.

I've updated the with the recent Vista drivers.

Any idea or ideas?

Thanks.

Have you tried to turn of the wireless security on the router and connect to the router that way ? In order to test it is not an issue between the 2 devices, i know you have been able to connect to other unsecured routers but would be good to know you can connect to yours. Obviously as sooon as you have tested then turn back on security but set to WEP 64 bit and try to connect if successfull then change security to 128Bit and so on.

If you are not able to connect with any form of security but arwe without then try uninstalling the drivers and reinstall them.

Are you using the Vista wireless manager or the one supplied by the makers of your wireless card.

What is the make/model of your wireless adapter ?

I'm using the Vista wireless manager. It does appear to be a WEP 64 problem, so i'll test tonight as you describe and post back. Thanks.

The adaptor i'm using is the WUSB54GS v2.1 with the Vista driver from there download section.

On upgrading XP to vista my connections seemed to get very confused about security settings and the type of keys. It resolved itself after I used a linksys utility to log on. Later when I switched back to the vista utility it added more steps to the process, asked for more information and did actually manage to log on.

Try something similar or at leaset remove any old connections stored in the system.

Ok, still having problems:

I've changed to WEP 64 bit (from 128 bit) and still unable to connect. However it doesn't have any problem with unencypted but i do need the encyption.

Still works in XP (i have dual boot)

So I tried installing the installation software for the Linksys Adaptor, but it doesn't run. I'm assuming its not compatable.

I then checked the Linksys website for Drivers. I am using the correct drivers for the adoptor in Vista,??

I'm clueless?

Hi

SO it shows as connected when using WEP but it is coming back as limited connectivity or local only.

It might be worth trying going into the TCP v4 properties in the wireless connection and then the advanced section and adding a default gateway of the router address eg if your router address is 192.168.1.1 enter that in the default gateway under TCP v4 properties and then avcanced and Default gateway.

Otherwise only other thing I would see is if the router is set to use the Turbo wireless function if so turn that if so it is using just plain old 8011G and try connection aagin. Might be the drivers having a problem with the none standard faster wireless.

If that also fails then I am stumped to be honest.
