Wireless Problem

The wireless icon in the system tray says I'm connected but I'm not.

I cannot connect to either the LAN or the Internet.

The other wireless computer on the network is not affected, so it isn't the router/modem.

I cannot reinstall the driver as I don't have a setup disc for this card and it seems quite impossible
to find (or at least download) the appropriate driver from the Internet.

It might be connecting, but failing to get an IP address from your DHCP server.

Once it says it's "connected". open a command prompt and type
IPCONFIG /ALL

This will show the IP address of your wireless network interface. It should be in the same address range as your local network, for example 192.168.1.x.

However, if it's not, e.g. it sets a defaulted address of 169.... then your wireless interface is not getting an address from your wireless router.

One temporary fix for this would be to set the address manually rather than DHCP (automatically).

Could be your firewall needs to be told that your lan is safe, what firewall are you using? Disabling the firewall is a fast way to check this, just remember to turn it back on :)
