Im on the Virgin 50mb with the supplied Netgear WNR200 router, im finding the wireless in the far end of my house pretty poor.

I have a spare cat 5 port and my mates got a spare WNR200 router.

Can this be added to my network as a wireless access point (not a repeater), to extend the wireless range of my existing wirelsss.

If so can someone explain the settings needed.

Yeah it can, I've done it before. IIRC all I had to do was disable DHCP on it, tell it what IP to use (in the right subnet but out of the DHCP scope of the router) and then plug it in to the main router (using one of the LAN switch ports on it, not the WAN port.)
