Alternators also use the same principal on a much larger scale. It's just another case of the non scientific public being amazed by this phononemon. :p

And don't alternates use permanent magnets and coils not an electric current?
 
Does anyone else find powering a fridge like this just totally pointless? I mean, at what point have you been concerned with how your fridge is powered, its not like you move it around lots is it :confused:. You just plug it in and leave it alone :)

Plus for larger household appliances, how would you earth something wirelessly? I see this being more of a novel convenience rather than a revolution... for now...
