Wireless Recommendation

Hi,

Can someone recommend me a wireless adapter, which has native linux drivers and doesn't require any messing around with ndiswrapper or similar, its for a desktop box so either PCI, PCI-Express or USB will be fine.

Also a decent one that works well with lowish signal strengths would be great.

I've had good luck with the Linksys Wireless PCI Adapter WMP54G in the past. I can't recall what chipset or drivers it used so I'm not much help.

The long-standing popular wisdom is that any card with an Atheros chipset is a good bet. It always seems to be tough to get a definitive answer as to what is best. These still, however, usually require restricted kernel modules. It'd be nice to have a 100% free and unencumbered WLAN system.

Does Intel make discrete wireless adapters?

Looks like the Linksys WUSB54G USB 2.0 802.11g/b is a good bet for a USB adapter.

I can verify the Linksys WMP54G Billy is on about works a treat on Mandriva and Ubuntu 7:10 and 8:04

The Netgear USB adapter WG111v2 Works on all the above too.

I have an Edimax card, it uses Ralink RT61 Chipset, can't remember the exact model, but it even came with Debian Drivers on the disk. Although Ubuntu Edgy/Fiesty/Gutsy all worked without any additional software.
