Wireless router working with cable modem???

Stupid question, I've just had to move to virgin from Orange due to an appauling BT line that can't cope voer 1/2meg and awul connection issues and I was wondering, can I get my wireless router to play nicely with the cable modem or do I need a new router? THe router it a Netgear DG834G v3.

2 types of routers, cable routers and adsl routers.

Cable routers, used for likes of virgin media.
ADSL routers, used for BT customers.
