What is the strongest Security on a wireless router as i beleive there are a few options aint there? Bear in mind a laptop is needed to connect to the wireless.
WPA-PSK can take the full ASCI set of keys, and can be up to 63 characters long i think
therefore the best possible password, will be a random generated string of characters numbers and letters.
Try to avoid using words if possible, as this would mean your key could be brute force attacked by going through the dictionary.
#5rtbb901stmkmk*202mnetgi2 sort of password would be nigh on impossible to crack ,unless somebody has a very very big grudge against you and was willing to take years to crack your key
NONE of the security systems are totally free from holes. The original WEP (wireless ethernet protection) was really bad so they changed to WPA (wireless protected access) and then a few varients of that. In order to crack most forms of WPA you haved to intercept around 2GB+ of packets, quite easy to do in a business network as people transfer files and large emails. For a home network it takes much longer.
If your really want to be security conscious you need to change the key every few months/weeks (depending on how heavy your usage is) and include MAC address (Media Access Control) filtering.
Cheers Guys. I have already got my Security set as suggested... Is there a way i can find out if someone has beening accessing internet through my router what should i look for?
On my Netgear the is an option to view attached devices. You may also be able to configure the router log to monitor who connects and when depending on what router you have.
