Today my laptop has arrived, so i decided i beter get my wrt54gl sorted out and ready (was collecting dust up untill today), so i installed the latest tomato firmware on it, and now need to know what security stuff i should use on it to keep my network safe, because when removing the bloatware from my laptop i noticed it picked up 2 nearby wiresless networks in the area, and i dont want either of them being able to connect to me at all.

Normal i would be able to figure this out myself but i dont have a great deal of time which is why im asking for the help of anyone here. The router has the option of wep, wpa (personal/enterprise) wpa2 (personal/enterprise) wpa/wpa2 (personal/enterprise) or radius. Which one is best, and what are the differences between the personal and enterprise security protection?

Edit: One more thing i would like to know, how do i set up a shared folder on my pc (vista home premium) that can only be accessed by my laptop (xp pro) and not the other users on my network.

Firstly I would change the name of your SID you can also make it so it dose not broadcast this out visibly over the local area. You then should be able to turn on MAC filtering (not sure if every Router has this feature though).. Lastly I would use WPA2 as your encryption with a long ish key using letters, numbers and characters ie *!£$%

AES is stronger than TKIP, but it's more important that you use a strong passphrase (non-dictionary, mix of cases, numbers and symbols).

as said strong passwords are very important, look into dice words if you cant make one up, 5 would do the trick.

EDIT: if you have no idea what Im talking about take a trip to http://world.std.com/~reinhold/diceware.html
