Wireless speakers for Samsung TV?

Hi.

I'm looking to buy some wireless (bluetooth presumably) speakers, to complement my new Samsung 55" curved TV. I already have a sound bar, but would like to place another couple of speakers behind my seating area.
I am a complete novice when it comes to the audio side of things. Can anyone tell me what I should look out for, or even better, recommend a suitable pair of speakers?

Thanks
James.

I could be completely wrong - but unless your soundbar has the ability to decode surround sound formats AND output the decoded rear channels to an added pair of speakers via bluetooth your not going to be able to do that.

As suggested above, your idea isn't feasible. You can't connect wireless speakers and have them receive the rear channel sound from a 5.1 stream. That's only going to work with an AV receiver really, not a soundbar with another set of speakers connected independently.

The way you're wanting to do it with any wireless speakers, is going to as stereo. That is going to sound odd though. Rear speakers in a 5.1 set up receive different audio to the front speakers. If the rear speakers received the same audio as the fronts (in this case a soundbar), it would sound rubbish. The last thing you want is to have the same audio coming from behind you as well as from the front.

Thanks for the advice. Makes sense:) I think I'll just stick with my sound bar. To be honest, when cranked up it does a pretty good job.

Hi,

Assuming it's a new Samsung TV then it will support SoundConnect.

Assuming your soundbar is SoundConnect compatible, then get yourself a few more SoundConnect compatible single speakers and then TV offers you the option to combine them all into a multi-speaker surround solution with no wires (except for power).

The system works flawlessly in my experience, the proviso is everything has to be Samsung and everything has to support SoundConnect!

Just to add, SoundConnect is Samsung's propriety Bluetooth based wireless speaker connection protocol. The TV controls the SC devices itself (i.e. turns things on and off with the TV and you can control the devices settings in the TV menus), it all works very well, I personally have a SC soundbar connected to mine and it's excellent, but of course you are limited to only buying Samsung products, which I realise may not be good enough for some audio wise.

oh now that's interesting...

I have a samsung es8000 tv (soundconnected to my samsnug soundbar - hwj450) and would love to bulk it up with some rears.

Anyone ever notice with soundconnect that the audio quality is terrible sometimes when it turns on? I have to turn it off/on again, or change source and back for it to clear.

Hi, I have a HW-J650 set up and can't say I've noticed a problem with SQ, the only thing is when I first turn it on the TV turns on the sound bar, which in turn powers up the sub woofer, but as this is on the other side of the room from the sound bar it can sometimes take 10-20 seconds to do so, in that time the sound quality comes across as pretty poor as these sound bars rely on the sub woofer to fill out huge portions of the overall range. Could this be something to do with it?

EDIT: Also, if you haven't done so, make sure your sound bar is running the latest firmware, I think you'll have to do it via USB on that model as it isn't WiFI enabled? They release new versions fairly frequently, so well worth checking if you haven't already, same goes for your TV if you don't have it hooked up to the internet so it can do it automatically...

Anyway, in terms of speakers, there are a number of options, they are all in the "M" range, i.e. the M3, M5 or M7, what you fill things out with will depend on what you want to do and what your TV can support, but (from memory) by 6 series 48" TV allows me to create upto a 7.1 system, with the front two speakers and subwoofer obv being the soundbar and then the other 4 being the likes of an M3, I think it also supports a system with just M speakers making up the fronts as well. It isn't a cheap option though, the M speakers are well over £100 each for the lowest ones!

Snip!

I'll do some research as its a fairly old tv now (2012 model i think) but thanks for the input!

As for range the sub is literally 2 feet from the soundbar. There is a complete lack of sub when i first turn it on though, along with the additional SQ issues (it sounds very crackly / low quality) but I can live with it as its a far better setup to have it automatically turn on with the tv though (as it does work perfectly sometimes) :)

I'd make sure everything is up to date, sounds like something that might be fixed by a new firmware to be quite honest!
