Our current one is not well located. One unit with the LCD is not easy too access and then the one to adjst temp is on the stairs and the kids brush past it turning it up (0600 was up as heating kicked in and i'm roasting.

Thinking of fitting one of these wireless thermostats.

Worth it?
Easy to do?
Suggestion for one too get?

Cheers

Yeah they are worth it, we fit a lot at work, mainly Honeywell. Easy to use and mostly reliable.

Easy to fit if you know what your doing :) Can be fitted to a combi or conventional system.
Why not go a step further and buy a programmable wireless thermostat, much better control and more efficient way of running the heating system.

At the moment Plumb Centre have their own brand of wireless prog stat (CentreBrand) at the bargain price of 39.99+ Its made by Honeywell, and is great value. Dunno how long the offer is on for tho.

I got a Boss Therm wireless stat you can stand anywhere in the home and move it around with you as you see fit. Twirly dials stuck to the hall wall are old fashioned these days.

Got a Honeywell wireless one here, I personally don't like it. The signal can be iffy in certain locations of the house meaning the heating doesn't go on when it should (or comes on overnight because the switch unit doesn't detect a signal). It's also a bit finicky in that if, say, the current room temp is 19 but you want to warm it up a bit, you'll turn up the desired temp to 19.5 but nothing will happen because the act of you touching the unit will make it think the room is now 19.5 so you then need to set it to 20 or 20.5, and turn it down again a few minutes later otherwise you end up too hot.

If the display actually told you when the boiler was on it'd be easier to know what it's doing, but instead it just shows a flame icon to tell you that it might turn the boiler on at some point when it feels like it.

I would also recommend getting a HoneyWell wireless unit.

However just make sure that the signal between the control unit and the thermostat is not going to be too far that it will keep forgetting itself.

Can't say I'd recommend the Honeywell wireless ones. Both that we've had (in two different houses) have had dubious signal quality with brand new batteries.

Based on personal experience, whatever you get, you want one that can be manually over ridden at the base station (The bit that fits to the boiler) in case the remote throws a wobbly!

Surprisingly, not all can be!

I've got a back boiler with a thermostat and separate timer/programmer on the wall. Will these devices work with my old setup?

quick question about these. I have a combi boiler and a wireless thermostat.

The combi boiler has a clock on it for turning central heating on/off twice a day,

These programmable wireless thermostats:- do you basically leave the boiler then on 'constant setting' and adjust the thermostat for whatever you want each day?

Thank you

Yes your correct, just leave the boiler on constant and let the thermostat do all the programming. I use this setup but also have a lightwaverf relay connected between the thermostat and boiler which let's me turn the heating on and off over the Internet
