Wireless Wii sensor bar

I am looking into ways to extend the cable for the sensor bar or get a decent wireless one that works well and doesn't drink batteries!!

I've seen a wireless one for about a tenner but it uses 6 batteries and is twice as thick as the normal bar - is there nothing else ?

I have heard / read that effectively you could just use some IR LEDs to do the job - knowing very little about electronics this is a bit beyond me and I don't think using candles would be too safe either given there might me quite a few people around :o

Anyone using a good wireless bar / has made their own with simple components ? :)

apparently its not that hard, look on youtube, there is one where some guy make a giant version and play wii sports on a cinema screen !
 
I think I've seen that video actually and i don't think it went into detail about how he did it as much as him just using it ...

I am just swaying toward that ten pound wireless 3rd party one at the moment just because of simplicity :p
 
u *** hook the one that comes with ** wii up to a battery pack, the cable is only a basic power cable, no data travels through it, its purely there to power the sensor bar is it not?

Yes.

All the sensor bar is two bright IR leds, one at each end. It's there to create two reference points for the Wiimote to triangulate where it is being aimed.

Candles are just another good IR source!
 
except they flicker and may burn at different speeds =) Buy 2 cheapo tv remotes from the poundshop(****. competitor? haha) and get the old hammer out :D Bluetac accordingly :)
Someone should bring out a WII TV, which comes with LEDs already stuck on it haha

I meant it's length, My TVs pretty big and when doing multiplayers the wii motes often cut off at either side but not for the person in the middle. Surely with a longer one it'll provide a larger coverage area around the TV? :confused:
 
I see what you mean now - that sort of thing is even more evident when using a projector ! Although the number of times it has actually been a problem is minimal to be honest ...

Hmmm if it is possible to get a spare wii sensor bar either free or for cheap from ninty then I would sabotage this one and whack a 9v battery on the end of the cable
