Is it ok to tack standard ethernet cable (CAT5) around the outside of my house?

Basically, we've been running wireless for the past 4 years but need to change to ethernet because the router (along with the cable modem) has been shoved in the furthest corner of the house last week and reception is shocking!

My plan is to drill a hole in my dad's new office wall and route 2 ethernet cables up and around to mine and my brothers bedrooms. From there they can be terminated and my bro and I can get extra switches and cables if required.

Cheers.

You could always put the cable inside conduit, would last much longer.

To be honest you will get a good few years out of it without conduit. It will eventually degrade. We have had cable outside for 2 years and its fine.

Do a proper job and put them under the floorboards (A lot more work though)

As above, I have done that, then just put a tube down the wall so you dont see the wires all over the place. Looks good.

Buy another wireless router and bridge it with the old one, hopefully you'll get better signal or at least be able to put it at some sort of mid-point between the real router and the computers.
