Wisdom tooth removal

No more NHS dentists in Plymouth, daughter had to go private for some fillings, £1700.00.
Our private dentist is great and charges £80 for a white filling. Pretty reasonable really. I'm guessing she needed a lot of work not just a few simple fillings.

I went private in the 1990s after my then NHS dentist told me all four of my wisdom teeth needed to come out and he could do it in one 40 minute appointmen.

Private dentist cleaned up the little piece of gum that been pinched as the wisdom teeth came through that had been troubling me and I still have three wisdom teeth 30 years later.

Your X-Ray looks like mine did. Very painful extraction and recovery period (dry socket included )

I didn't get dry socket luckily. Had an awkward social moment though having the normal tooth extracted.
Told me to bite down on this cotton thing to stem bleeding and not talk after it was out. I thought he left it in there and I was to bite on it until i got home.
Dentist says I'm good to go, so I nod, wave bye and then reception ask if I'm ok and I just nod. I'm still biting down on the cotton (so I thought).

When I got home I realised the cotton had been removed and I was actually biting down on my tongue. That is why the dentist asked me a question despite telling me not to talk.

They phoned me in the afternoon to make sure I was ok. As to them it probably looked like I was traumatised as I stopped speaking to everyone.

my dentists kept open. In 2020/1, I had three new fillings, three fillings refilled plus two lots of root canal.

Had my sole wisdom tooth out in 2019 as getting rotten and teeth have no purpose if tooth on opposite jaw isn’t there.

I had a mine surgically removed when i was around 30, bottom 2 were impacted with hooked roots like rivets, was on NHS list for years to get them removed, my private cover refused to touch them, then one of them shattered, and got infected so private all of a sudden said they would pay, day of the op was when I popped positive for diabetes, so surgery got cancelled for 6 months till my sugars were under control, (was lucky by all accounts my cousins diabetes arrived at the same age and he found out when he woke up in hospital).

Finally hacked out my bad rotten tooth after a 3+ year saga and was sooo rotten that I got permanent nerve damage in my jaw, so now bottom jaw left side is numb and front left tip of my tounge. and im missing a chunk of jaw hey had to hack out as well, Airports always think i have something in my mouth.

Private Insurance also said after the surgery that they would only pay for 1 of the 4 teeth they removed, so that turned into a bunch of drama as well, but to be fair to the surgeon he sorted most of that out, and I never had to pay anything in the end.

I had a wisdom tooth taken out yesterday,
it'd gotten wobbly over the last couple of weeks as i have a secondary wisdom tooth trying to get out behind it and started to be very sensitive,
great service from my dentist, called them with the issue mid afternoon on Monday and was in at 9am for a screening the next day,
she saw the problem and pulled it out
No charge for it on the day as i'm on Denplan at around £20 a month

Thanks chaps, you've just reminded me I need to get the private dental at work sorted; my wisdom tooth on the bottom right keeps getting a gum infection around it as the gum kind of "overhangs" the tooth.

Want them out!

After some of the stories on here I feel lucky when I had all 4 removed without any issue!

I was worried about dry socket I didn't eat for days and only drank through a straw!

I had one of my wisdom teeth removed in January. 3 remain but aren't causing issues. My wisdom tooth came out really easily without any issues.

My face was back to normal the following day. I think I got off lucky.

I had impacted wisdom teeth which caused intermittent jaw ache every 6 months. Eventually had them all out, the scan even showed an extra one growing! Went to hospital and had them removed under general anaesthetic. Months later even had small shards pushing out of my gums but glad they're gone now!
