My mum has just started thinking about getting a Wii after not having the use of one for a while, I've also been thinking about getting a console but not really justified the cost/play ratio. With that in mind I suggested the Xbox 360 as a compromise (I was thinking about a PS3).

How does a 360 compare to the Wii for motion games, is the kinect as good as the wii remote and board? We've looked at the list of Kinect games and they seem ok (action/winter sports and fun balacing type games etc) but how does playing really compare to the Wii. How does the PS3 and Move compare as well?

For me I'd be tempted by games like GTA4 and Red Dead Redemption (yeah, last console was the PS2...) but always though of them as playstation titles. I guess in reality there isn't much difference on either platform?

The addition of BR in the PS3 was one of the reasons I wanted to get one but as we don't have a HDTV yet (first gen Plasma) it doesn't really matter at the moment.

motion games are a gimmick, something you play for 15 minutes then they sit there for years gathering dust, if you want blu ray get a ps3, otherwise just go for whatever console all/most of your mates play on

Read the OP again...

My mum wants the motion games to play on (we used to have a Wii and she used it a lot, alongside us) however I am thinking I may be able to add some money and go halves on a system that will play games I want to play as well. None of my mates play games much (nether do I really) but I like the occasional blast but can't justify the whole cost of a console for that.

ThestigGT999 I'm intrigued, why is the PS Move more like the Wii?:)

Get a 360 with the kinect, I think it's much better than the move, however this might be because I struggle to actually get the move to work at times.

If its for your Mum then id stick with the Idea of the Wii

and the New zelda looks like it could be one of the greatest games ever made if the reviews are anything to go by Metacritic gave it a 95 and IGN 10/10

huh?

do mean something like wii fit?

That'll be the one...:o Brainfart moment...

he wants a console for multiple uses

Someone gets me!:D

Well it's a bit of both. TBH I never understood the fascination with Zelda, but then I don't like 3rd person fantasy games so... Other than House of the dead: Overkill I never really found any games on the Wii that were particularly exciting.

Wii's best games can go toe to toe with anything the other 2 consoles have.

Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 alone are equal to any 2 games on the other systems.
The new Zelda got 10 in Edge. And IGN. And Eurogamer. And the Guardian etc
Xenoblade Chronicles is rated as the best JRPG of the generation.
Donkey Kong Country hardcore 2D platforming.
Kirby's Epic Yarn, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Zelda Twilight Princess, Punch Out!, New Super Mario Bros, Monster Hunter Tri etc

There are even a few game where the motion control adds a little something. Several where it does no harm. And some where it isn't even used.

Or you can listen to the graphics whore fashionistas who are still partying like its 2006 and Wii has nothing out ;-)

As TheVoice said it's all about preference. Where are the FPS and GTA style games? Most of those are fantasy oriented third person games, stuff I'm just not interested in. They may be superb games but just not for me.

I'll have to have a look into PS Move and see what it's like, I assumed it was more the poor cousin of Kinect..

So get a cheap Wii for the motion stuff, from what I have seen the Wii trumps kinect and move in terms of motion games and they look a lot more fun, move/kinect just copied the wii.

Then get a cheap 360 S for you serious gaming needs.

Xbox 360 can do pretty much everything you want. Albeit Kinect is pricey. I've stayed well away from it though, after owning a Wii since 2006 and going on it maybe 10 times, to be fair Twilight Princess was an epic game, I think motion controls are a gimmick. Couch potato gamers ***.

Only downside to the 360 kinect is you need plenty of room. You need to beable to stand a good distance away from the kinect, otherwise it keeps losing you. But other than that its pretty damn good.
