*** Witchfire Thread ***

I was going to wait for a sale, but I'd like to pick this up sooner than later,
so I might check out a let's play in order to get a feel for the game before pulling the trigger.

Certainly looks compelling!

so frustrating, I had, I thought, got all of the requirements to get to Gnosis II from that 2nd harder level. over 36000 withcfire, defeat the marksman guy, defeat the big slave guy, I even cleared the map and a calamity but still no Gnosis II and nobody ever drops an incantation III. Sooo frustrating.
 
Incantation III drops do happen just not that often, and generally after a reasonably sized 'boss' has been dealt with.

I'm currently mooching around Irongate Castle, the level is stunning, the atmosphere and architecture are top notch. Dispatching the Familiar was very rewarding. My Preyer is at level 83, pretty well tooled up and yet the battles can be very intense, full on and great fun. I still die, and yet its through my own doing, not the game cheating me.

Next step is Gnosis IV :eek:

I think for Gnosis II you also need to enter the vault on Island of the damned?
Incantation III drops are quite rare, but the 3 mini bosses in Velmorne can drop them.

What does it show when you go to the chest where you level up your Gnosis? It should show you what requirements have been met there.

I am such a numpty. I totally forgot about that other place in the game. Just went and upgraded to Gnosis II straight away. Got the Striga and now working on getting much more stuff done. Thanks.

edit: well that all escalated quickly now !!

edit edit: erhhh meee geeerddd I had a calamity (galleon), the slave guy (after doing 7 arcane crystals) and the warden in one place. Man I was never coming out of there alive

A minor peeve of mine is having to visit multiple tables back in Hermitorium, Gnosis and Torments, sure, you don't need to visit those all that often, but swapping out weapons, beads & prophecies I feel we should be able to do from the menu anywhere in the Hermitorium. And saving loadouts would be nice too.

Agreed, loadouts would be a big QoL improvement. Same for the incenses and echo quest, its a pain to have to visit the tables each time.

Up to Gnosis IV now, working on the tower boss and levelling up some more items as I go. Still got the Velmoure vault to do as well before moving on up.

I've made it to Gnosis IV, and that Tower is a challenge. I can get down a couple of levels, but I'm too good at dying :D

I've done boss at the castle, which was good fun.
 
Just gone to Gnosis III and wow what a step up in challenge. Slowly getting better at most things and then that happens. Still not seen a Incarnation III but I think I will at Gnosis III now.

Velmorne is your best bet, each of the mini bosses (and the familiar, but not the warden) have a chance to drop. It's worth fishing for a decent layout that allows you to run in, gank a boss and run back to the entry portal. Just remember to not ascend until you are done otherwise the layout changes. I'd avoid Sepulcher for this purpose, its much tankier than the others.
 
That Sepulcher is a great adversary in a game, not only takes lots of fire power to take down, but he also dishes it out. And when he appears on the map after you've died and dropped a lot of Witchfire, it's a race against him before he leeches your loot, and it's gone for good!

I had noticed Sepulcher guarding my grave on occasions, but I assumed he only got my stuff if I died before retrieving it :eek:
 
Few days farming, all prophecies collected and latent orbs done except Velmorne, so moved up to Gnosis V and on to Witch Mountain I go!

yep met him for the first time last night and got my *** handed to me. I am managing a little more with Velmorne now. I finally goy my first level III incantation but it still feels like they never drop. I've done the maps dozens of times now. Up to level 80 and 1 drop is painful. Only want to do a couple of favourite guns to III and I will be better.

At level 80 you are doing something wrong if you cannot research level III incantations at the mirror.
I was swimming in them from about level 50 just from researching them before every run then collecting and re-researching more rinse repeat.
Have you checked your mirror?
