At level 80 you are doing something wrong if you cannot research level III incantations at the mirror.
I was swimming in them from about level 50 just from researching them before every run then collecting and re-researching more rinse repeat.
Have you checked your mirror?
I just like repetitive expeditions. Getting a lot of Witchfire from it. Gnosis III I am on, does not give you Incantation III on the mirror

You need to be on gnosis IV to reliably farm incantation III, it will appear in the mirror then as research costing 40 gold and 25 research.
I recommend going to gnosis IV as your gear and weapons really come alive at level 3 and will make up for the difficulty increase plus you are then at the stage where you can farm incantation III for fun.

If you want to know what level 3 does for weapons check out this site , also gear and spells info in there too.
This way you can plan and research incantations III for whatever you like the look of.

yep met him for the first time last night and got my *** handed to me. I am managing a little more with Velmorne now. I finally goy my first level III incantation but it still feels like they never drop. I've done the maps dozens of times now. Up to level 80 and 1 drop is painful. Only want to do a couple of favourite guns to III and I will be better.

This seems unlikely or extremely bad RNG. I would say the drop rate from Executioner and Watch Commander are about 1 in 4 or 5, with the common drop being a level II. Don't bother clearing the whole level, just find a decent layout where you dont have a major enemy encounter close to either of the bosses and then regardless of which spawn point you land at, rush the boss, delete him with Echo/spell spam and then run back to the arrival portal. Repeat until you have a few to level up your primary gear set. Then you can go back to full clears, progression or whatever else you fancy doing.

I try not to spend too much gold on researching them at the mirror, because a lot of the consumables need gold and I'm not swimming in it yet. Whenever I get over 300 gold I'll kick one off.

As I said I've not spent a lot of time in Velmorne, only the previous maps. So spent a lot of time just collecting other stuff. The game doesn't explain itself well and I hate reading guides cos my brain just doesn't take it in. I just play as it is.

Ah I think we've misread when you stated you'd "done the maps dozens of times" that you meant Velmorne specifically. Prior to that at Gnosis II I think the only place I got one from was Warden/Galley Slave but once you elevate to Gnosis III this stops happening, presumably to discourage bottom feeding.

For me personally, it doesn't even feel early access. It's incredibly polished, got tonnes of content, and the gameplay is challenging while being fun and rewarding.

Obviously I would have a look at the video I posted a page or two back, and decide whether it's your sort of game. Some might say it's repetitive gameplay, but each run into the areas is different, and the harder you make it on yourself and get better, the more the game rewards you. Early on can be challenging, and seem limited, but once you start getting good and better equipped, the game really comes alive

That's reassuring. Don't mind some repetitiveness, Hades II was a grind but the gameplay made up for it.

Think I'll end up pulling the trigger but it's just the price im put off now. £25 is usually my upper limit :D
