I have signed up to a mobile broadband contract that limits the amount of data you can send and receive. I have a 5GB limit.

I have set websites to not automatically load images. Is there a way to find out how much internets usage I save by doing this?

Any other ways to reduce usage of internets?

I'm not promising this, but I would be stunned if you use 5GBs even with pictures, maybe even with occasional Youtube streaming.

5gb a month on a mobile would be very hard to hit, i have had my n95 for around 12 months now, and download a few podcasts a week and use skype a bit and I have only just hit 1GB

Well its on my laptop so I'll be used to youtubing occasionally, watching vids on BBC News, that sort of thing.

On a related note, do internet cafes normally have download limits? Like can I go and download something off the iplayer in an internet cafe then watch it at home?

I have the 1Gb limit on a 3G dongle, which is only used at weekends. Admittedly, no streaming, but just browsing with everything on is only 300mb per month. Maximum.

hahah I don't even hit 5GB per month on my 20MB BB :p

Please tell me this is lies? :o You'll make the etherbunny cry :( I'm hitting five HUNDRED GB a month never mind 5. You were joking, right? Else what's the point of paying for 20Mb? Please don't say so email loads faster, either :p

Got torrents? :p

Seriously,at home we have a 15GB limit. Before I got home from uni and started using Steam, my mum, dad and brother were using 2GB a month between them!

So how many films a month is that then? As theres no way that could be legally ;)

Hahaha on a phone no way in hell you should be hitting over 5Gb, unless linking the connection to a PC/Laptop and using Torrents/Usenet. :p

Though watching loads and loads and loads of YouTube videos will all add up, I seriously doubt you will hit the cap, as I said it will have to be loads and loads...and loads. :p

Alternatively instead of disabling image downloads entirely you could maybe use Opera Mini? I understand that it requests the page from an Opera server, which takes the page and compacts it all for you before sending it to you. Thus you save bandwidth and battery power (less processing done by your phone).

if you're hitting 500GB a month on a regular basis, even at 1080p with 5.1 sound video, surely that's gonna take up most of your time just to watch. I mean, I don't know what that is with 1080p but based on a 720 rip I have, 500GB would be about 5hours of video a day... where do you find the time???

or the storage space
