With such a difference between DVD and Blu Ray...

Apparently the PS3 is a good upscaler? I've got one, but never tried it for dvd's, just blu rays. :p

I use my Xbox 360 for DVDs, and it upscales them to 1080p and looks pretty good. Certainly a hell of a lot better than letting the TV do the upscaling off a regular DVD player.

The trouble is the vast majority of people still aren't ready for the DVD->BR switch. We'll be using DVDs for some time yet.

I don't disagree, in fact I said the transition was slow and DVDs would slowly die out, which I believe has started to happen. Blu ray players are now around £60, which is what I paid for my first DVD player, and DVD releases were more expensive than blu rays now when I started to buy them. If anything, the current economic climate has slowed the uptake of blu rays. You say people aren't ready, but look at the amount of HD TVs being purchased. Most people have the most expensive piece of essential kit already, and I have no doubt blu rays and players will continue to fall in price, they've already come down a huge amount.

I wasn't bothered with Blu-ray until I got a Toshiba player with 12 month Lovefilm subscription (4 per month) for £99. That changed my mind and the difference between SkyHD+ (720p) and blu-ray is marked.

No more DVDs for me. I'm a convert.

I think the best option is just to rent Blue Ray disks as they cost the same as dvds! Also with all of the legal ways of streaming video these days such as iplayer dvd quality can easily be found for free. Where as to get blue ray quality download times would be huge!!!

Will be interesting to see if there is a replacement to blue ray anytime soon! Dont know if they can run 3d films from blue ray? That seems to be the way TV's are beginning to go...

DVD. My entire collection is DVD, and there's no way I'll be replacing them until Blu-ray is similarly cheap as DVD is now.

I buy nearly all my films through amazon/zoverstocks for peanuts, usually less than £2 delivered, so I'm a little reluctant to spend 5 times the cost on something I don't really need/see the point in ATM.

There will not be a replacement for blu-ray anytime soon. And yes blu-ray is capable of 3d (infact all PS3's are 3D blu-ray players after a software update)

I don't buy many anymore, I rent them from love film and only buy the ones i love. Been 18 months since I had the bluray player and I have less than 15 films, compare to 400 odd DVDs.

If I'm going to buy a movie, I'll want the best quality possible. I chose bluray last time (District 9).

Aye, I find little use in filling up book shelves with films I only see once. And out of those, I'll wait until they're dirt cheap.

I rent Blu Rays (Tesco DVD Rental) to watch the films I want but buy DVD films for the kids - we have so many DVD players dotted around, especially in car for long journeys, that Blu Ray would be a waste.

i do get the occasional bluray the last one i brought full price from retail was avatar, the rest i just get through the bay or online but they have to be sub £10 for me to even consider it.

for the price i got avatar new i bought shootemup, harry potter 4 and season 1 of the terminator chronicles blurays 2nd hand - which was a real bargin.

soo expensive.
