WMP and Playing MKV's Problem

I have the shark (latest) codecs installed and usually I can play all my mkv's through wmp. For the last couple of days though the files wouldn't play and just appeared frozen on the screen. I have re-installed the codecs and the files are playing but now wmp wont close down. If I close it a couple of the icons remain on my taskbar and if I click on the wmp icon it just opens the file up at the last place it was played. Default IME shows in task manager and I have to close wmp down through here to clear the icons.

the haali media splitter is usually required for mkv playback (unless its bundled in some codec pack). I find that all I need is haali and ffdshow installed to playback everything in WMP (plus lots of nice options/upscaling in ffdshow). Personally I much prefer this setup over things like codec packs, vlc and media player classic etc :)

I've tried the others and moved onto sharks codecs ages ago with no problems till now. I don't use my pc to watch movies etc, just to try the mkv files out when I rip them for my NAS.

I'll have a go at CCCP again and see how I go.

I wouldn't use any of those above,
Download the free Divx Plus codec, it's the biggest and best officially supported h264 codec for mkv's and WMP.
Don't bother installing the bundled Divx player though, it's total crap ;)
