Hi

I seem to have a slight wobble at 90mph. I have been to the tyre place to check my wheel balancing and they said they were fine.

When I go up to 100mph the wobble goes and when I go down to 80mph the wobble goes.

Its driving me nuts.

Any idea what could be causing this?

It's the car's way of telling you you're about to kill 50 children?

This happened to me a few years ago...!

Checked pressures, balancing etc but still done it!

I gave up, and took it to VX who said the steering needed retorqued... done it under warranty and it never done it again :)

I have no idea if this is a common thing or what... never heard of it till then! lol

90mph = Resonant frequency of something?

This is what I've been told by my workmate. 70mph = a bit of wobbly feedback through steering wheel.... 80mph = smooth as you like.

I've been told that wheel balancing is fine but may have to get it re-done properly on a laser setup when I return from Aus  It annoys the hell out of me.

My saloon did the EXACT thing however the coupe does not do this at any speed.

What size wheels do you have on your saloon and are the tyres all the same ?

Had something similiar happen on my car.

Had the tracking and wheel balancing done numerous times and it would not go away.

Ended up it was something to do with one of the driveshafts being worn.

Cant remember exactly but possibly a bearing or something related to the driveshaft.

Do you find that the speed at which it occurs has varied over time, or has it always been at the same speed?

have had this on my current golf and my old polo, but not on the astra i had in between, was always under the impression it was some sort of resonant frequency issue

Hrm good point, one of my tyres was replaced before I got the car (you'd have thought they would have done both sides) and it's not exactly the same type. That'll probably be it, then...

Could be the alloys.. If one has a slight warp this could be causing it. I had this problem with my old tyres after I'd overheated them on track.

I also had this problem when there was a slow puncture on one of the alloys and it had to be whacked back in to shape by the tyre place.
