While I was browsing Logitech's Support FAQs looking for a solution to my other mouse problem I inadvertedly came upon a solution to another problem I had occassionally been having: a wobbly mouse pointer.

Now, I only get this very rarely so I never bothered finding a fix for it, but since I stumbled across it I thought I'd follow the link to the Microsoft KnowledgeBase article they linked to and apply the solution described there. However, when I followed its instructions and opened the mouse properties applet from Control Panel, I didn't find an "Enhance Pointer Precision" option anywhere in there! It was neither under the "Pointer Options" tab (which is just called "Pointer" in mine) as the KB article says, nor under "Motion" as XP's offline Help says.

After a while the penny dropped and I realised the reason I can't find it is because I'm not using XP's mouse control applet at all - I'm using Logitech's Mouseware! Unfortunately, it seems to have replaced the built-in Windows applet at all levels (even typing "control mouse" from the command prompt brings up Mouseware), so I don't know how to get to the XP version!

Any ideas?

I have a feeling that mouseware is old and has been replaced by something else. Try downloading the latest logitech mouse software from their website. It also gives you both the xp panel and its own. Uninstalling mouseware may give you back the xp panel.

Well, I did go to Logitech's website and there doesn't seem to be anything more recent than Mouseware 9.79. I'd try the uninstall except I need MW to configure the extra buttons... isn't there a .dll of the XP applet that I can run manually or something?

I remember now, the new mouse software is called Setpoint. When you install it it gives an error messages saying you must remove any versions of mouseware that you may have and that its been replaced by setpoint, iirc.

When i go to software download and click my mouse it comes up with the latest version of setpoint, but yours gives mouseware. Not sure why.
You could always try setpoint and see, click the mx1000 for it if you fancy giving it a try, but it could screw it up.

Setpoint's just the driver for the bluetooth receiver, you still need MW. I did spot something called "advanced configuration utility for MW" on Logitech's website though! It doesn't re-enable the enhanced pointer precision option but it has all sorts of other useful stuff:)

I've never used mouseware. All my mx1000 came with was setpoint, and it has all the tools for assigning functions to buttons etc as well as being the driver.
So i can't understand what mouseware is? I thought it had been replaced my setpoint?

Yep, it's probably replaced MW for newer models, but for my MX700 MW is still the only thing available according to their website.
As I said, I only get the wobbly pointer once every few days, and I have a wired mouse plugged into my keyboard PS2 port to use as a backup for when that happens, so if there's no easy way to fix it I'm not gonna bother experimenting:)
