Wondering if you can help simplify this for me.

Okay so...

I recently bought a wicked-cool PC from you guys at OCUK (thankyou very much, it's bloody awesome). Amongst all the parts I bought I also got hold of two of These Monitors.

Now these have VGA inputs along with DVI-D. My computer uses the DVI-D input to each monitor, which is simple enough and works just fine.

Now my dilema, is that my xbox 360 and TV are in the most uncomfortable position in the world (wall mounted TV which I have to look up at or stand up to play on). This is complicated by the fact that I own a Roxio Game Capture device which takes and gives component inputs and outputs.

Now, If I purchase a Component Cable with the yPrPb connectors, which has a VGA on the other end, can I connect my roxio game cap to the VGA input of my monitors. As I understand it, VGA is also capable of displaying HD picture and is also analogue like component.

So the signal path would be:

Xbox 360 (Component Output) > Roxio Game Capture (Component Input and Output) > PC Monitor (VGA Input).

My question is, would this work? Thanks :)

Doesn't work. All I get is a green colour on my PC monitor.

Well that was a waste of money. Why are all the converters so damn expensive?!

Damn, I'm really sorry man. I looked at YPBPr to VGA cables and they are really cheap and don't need active conversion. Therefore, you would assume it would work without issue.

However, it seems that these cables are not meant for YPBPr (despite the titles), but RGB instead (which is a different signal and what VGA PC monitors use). Instead, you need an expensive active converter to change from YPBPr to RGB/VGA.

If you bought it from an online retailer in the UK then you will be entitled under DSR to return it to them for a full refund - so long as you notify them within 7 working days of receiving it.

For capturing the output of the Xbox, you may want to consider a HDMI or VGA capture card that also allows you to pass through the video signal to a display. (If you go for HDMI, then you could get this working with the single DVI input of your monitor using a HDMI to DVI adapter and a HDMI switch box).
