Woo...

Good attitude - good luck! 14 a week seems reasonable - what's JSA's current requirements... 2 a fortnight?

Wishing you a speedy return to work!

I am in a little place called Crewe, I am going back to retail, try and find many retail jobs. I have applied to 14 job vacancies but filled in more application forms and handed out even more CV's

not that far from me (Stoke), I worked temporary for 3 months at Phones 4U head office, applied for a full time role and due to start on the 27th of this month (OCUK is just up the road so more spending :)). I know LSG are a big insurance company based in Crewe, they are always advertising for sales people http://www.lifestylegroup.co.uk/content/careers.html if you like that or their are other roles available.

I was just going to provide you with a link to the direct.gov.uk site however it now says you can volunteer full time and still get JSA. It certainly WASN'T like that previously as I looked into this before a year or two ago. Glad to see it has been changed so people can actually do useful stuff with their spare time now!

(Can anyone else confirm that it used to be the case you could only volunteer for a few hours a week max?)

You're not going mad, that was the case. People saying they were volunteer working but getting paid off the books as I remember. Guess they just figured people will do it anyway and it's extraditing the people that do it legitimately? Not sure. But you're right it used to be against the JSA policy.

Just incase you missed it, you can work and be paid less than JSA and the job centre will make up the difference these days too. :)

Group interviews are just as they sound - they ask the same questions but a group of you are all sat there at the same time to answer. Whether they address you in turn or just let you chip in as you see fit is up to the company though.

I had a few group interviews for uni (I know it's not the same) and one for a retail job - my advice is to seem interested and confident, but don't be the first to answer every question or come on too strong, so that you swamp the others in the interview, or you'll seem cocky. Even if you know the answer to a question, I'd make sure I let someone else answer first a couple of times.
I know you need to make sure you stick in their memory, but make sure it's for the right reasons, for being the self-assured, intelligent one with some interesting things to say, not the **** who talked louder than everyone else whether they had something to say or not. It's a fine balance. Worked for me - got in at all the unis I interviewed for and got the job too.

Good luck with it, hope you find something soon, keep us posted :)

Well I am back from the interview. I have a bad feeling about it, there were 6 of us, 3 of the candidates were kept behind to discuss there CV's, the other 3 of us were let go and told we would hear if we were successful or not by 5pm...

Yeah keep your head up! At least you had an interview, I knew someone with a masters degree and couldn't even get that for a few weeks ad he was "too experienced" lol

Something will come along

All I can say is best of luck, very grim out there and it tells you something when there are that many people going in for even basic jobs.

I remember last year looking at a few figures somewhere and Tesco had 10 Trainee Manager opportunities going, I think there were about 11000 applicants.

I work at ALDI, been there since November last year. The day of my interview there were around 12 of us. Don't worry, ALDI are currently mass recruiting and I am confident you should hear some good news.

All the best!

Yeah, it's hard if you lack experience - because of that I just tend to stay in the same sector (energy) - luckily I'm up-to about 6 years now in this area, it makes such a difference in the interviews if you can reel off 4 different positions in the same industry.

I feel sorry for anybody who is starting out or needing to move sector, must be brutal.

Can you give me some details about it please? I was told you get bonuses if you meet targets? Care to enlighten me?
