I'm in the middle of building a 40' long featherboard fence, and I don't fancy brushing it if I can spray it with stain and achieve a good result in a faster time.

Has anyone here used a sprayer that they can recommend, one that wasn't totally **** and gave good results, as most out there don't seem to be up to much and I don't want to buy something binworthy.

Cheers!

Many years ago I worked in Homebase and customer feedback on them was that they took a bit of getting used to, but they did work. I think if it's 40' long then you're going to be used to it by the end.. if it was only 18 foot of fence I'd suggest not bothering.

Sorry I can't be any more help.

be careful with them, i was thinking of one and got warned that when you spray the fence theres a fair chance it will get between the pieces making up the fence and spray through to the other side as well.

I have just bought a Wagner Project 115, not for a fence, I have just put up a log cabin - some 120m2 inside and out plus the internal ceiling and floors. Need to do 2 coats of wood preservative - 300m2 (inside walls, ceilings, floors and outside walls, eaves, soffits, facias), 1 coat of external undercoat (120m2) and 2 external coats of waterproofer (240m2). eeek.

The wagner has gone through 20 litres of wood preservative, 7 litres of undercoat (thick stuff) and I am about the chuck another 16 litres of waterproofer through it - solid as a rock. Thing is I have got the 2 coats of preservative in and out and the first coat of base coat done in about 6 hours not including drying time. Time is money.

It can do emulsion for internal walls too. Not cheap, but if you hate painting its worth an investment - buy cheap buy twice.

Do a search for Airless sprayers and find one in your price range. Wagner is about the best brand for DIY as many of them can handle more viscous fluids with interchangeable filters and nozzles.

That's fine by me TBH. I need to do both sides, and for 90% of its length it is between flower beds/trampled earth so a bit of overspray won't matter.

The wagner has gone through 15 litres of wood preservative, 10 litres of undercoat (thick stuff) and I am about the chuck another 16 litres of waterproofer through it - solid as a rock.

Blimey, it's a bit rich for me! I'm only responsible for maintaining that one length of fence (which is a bonus as I have an 80-90' garden and is down to the fact that I adjoin 5 other gardens), so I think a £200+ sprayer is a bit much, and buy cheap buy twice saves me £120 if those £40 sprayers are up to much (assuming I do ever have to buy twice!).

True, guess a 40 foot fence aint like 800m2 (every 5 years eeek). God I hate paint brushes ;)

Looks for airless sprayers with a fine tip and it should be good for fence preservatives. Check customer reviews on amazon, lots of the cheap ones are not worth it by all accounts - blockages etc.
