so chuffed, I've never brought a blu-ray film before because they are usually soooo expensive, but yesterday I popped into my local cancer research shop to have a gander at the books and sitting there were these two (below) for a fiver each, I was very surprised to find blu-ray's in a charity shop, I can't imagine someone just giving them away, 'The Departed' I think is an American disk as it's rated restricted on the back but it seems to play alright, I guess the PS3 can play blu-rays from other regions ?

Anyway, I tried '300' out on my old panny projector, it's not a HD projector but even still I do notice a big difference compared to DVD (I own both), I'm not sure why, surely your projector would have to be running at a HD resolution before you notice any difference ?, but I can definitely see more detail on the blu-ray version switching between the two, also the blacks are allot better which a big plus for projector viewing.

So you find couple of bargains and helped a worthy cause? That's a win-win situation! I have a standing order with Cancer Research and all I get is a quarterly newsletter...

Not all Blu-rays are region encoded, so you got lucky this time. If you ever order internationally, take note - they usually say whether a particular title is region free or not.

I've never been in a position to afford an HD projector, and have been using a basic 4:3 XGA res model, and the quality is great. I'd say it's not too far off 720P (subjectively speaking). I think it's to do with the way projectors map the source image and sample it to the native resolution or something.

It'll certainly tide me over till 1080P projectors come down sufficiently in price!
