Wordpress (noob alert - need help)

I just installed wordpress and am finding it a bit of a nightmare to use.

Whenever I make a post there is an option underneath it to "Read More". But the irritating thing is... THERE IS NO MORE. :/

So how do I disable the pointless "read more" thing?

If I recall it's a custom tag (something like <!-- MORE -->); remove it from the respective template file.

How do I add links?

I added the links 'widget' to the sidebar (PRESENTATION > WIDGETS) but I can't work out how to add links to it.

And it's not the blogroll. Adding links to the blogroll does not make them appear on this links wiget. As far as I can tell the blogroll is unrelated to the links widget.
