I have been toying around with wordpress for a year or so and I am still slightly confused.

I have read through the documentation and from what I understand posts are more so for blogs and pages are for static content.

If my site is geared around writing reviews for products should they be published as a page or a post? I am thinking a page is the correct option.. yes.. no?

But how can I feature a page on the homepage? Doesn't seem like it can be done.

Cheers for any help

A post would be most suitable. Static content means things that wont change, so an About page or Contact wont change. Whereas a review is more like a blog post, as it will be listed by date I would imagine?

I use WordPress on my blog and publish explanation & tutorials about SQL / Excel / Databasey things..

I suppose reviews would kind of go into the same category as the above, and if I were doing a SQL book review on my site - I would post it as a blog post, not a page.

I use Wordpress for my businesses and a community website. Whenever we have a property available itgoes on as a post and the same with news about travel etc. With our community site we make posts about whats going on, entertainment, localnews etc. Both sites have static pages but the posts seem to be really doing well in search engine results.
You can have a static page as a homepage, it is in under Settings - Reading. Look for the option 'Front Page Displays'
