Was just using my work computer on our system as usual, and the pc froze. So I reset it, and it started to load, once it had passed the "windows xp is loading" screen the screen just went blank (as if it had turned off, even though it was still running)
Reset again and it gave the option for safe mode, chose that and the screen went blank again.

Any ideas whats up? Or what i can do to fix it?

monitor or gfx card?

I had the exact same problem once and i cant for the life of me remember what it was, or how i fixed it.

Have you not got an IT dept that can sort it?

Or have you illegal materials on there that you dont want them to find? :p

oh no lol its not anything illegal on there!! There is one it guy, and he cant fix it, and me (who is trying to be it assistant!!) so i thought id ask on here!!

The monitor still seems to work, u think it might be the gfx card?

is it a Dell machine by any chance? (GX270?)

a lot of Dell machines (GX270 for sure) have problems with the capaicters on the motherboard bulging \ swollen. We have loads of these at work and we need to get a replacement part from Dell.

If you google the problem, loads of info will come up. Normally it happens when the PC is cold and just turned on I find

you can find the model number round on the power button, does the monitor just go into standby mode when it turns itself odd?

lol yup - we have about 2 Dell 270's a week that we have to send back to dell because of the capacitors

Same here. And everytime 20 minutes on the phone even though they know of the problem! But suppose if they admit it they will have to do a recall.

cheers for the help :) Il go in sounding knowledgable on monday!! Really hope theyll train me up for IT soon (iv asked) so if i can fix this then theyll prob note it!x
