Due to the amount of mileage I will be doing with work I have got the option to join the lease car scheme in work. Basically depending on the lease cost of the car through work will depend on if I get the car + extra money which I would use towards fuel. So for this reason im after a high mpg car (low CO2 for Tax reasons) but one that's comfortable for the kind of journeys im going to be doing.

Just wondering if people have any further suggestions to possible cars I have missed out on researching. Cars I'm leaning towards are:

Skoda Superb 1.6TDI Greenline II Elegance
Peugoet 508 2.0HDI SR
VW Passat 2.0TDI Blue Motion Tech SE + Nav

The BMW 1 and 3 series seem to have stupidly low co2 ratings, as do some of the Merc C class's, not sure if they will be within budget tho.

The BMW 1 Series seems a bit small for my liking. I did look in to the 3 Series 320 Efficient Dynamics. But from what i was told is that there is no more stock being produced for the current 3 series due to new model, meaning i wouldn't be able to get the spec I wanted.

As for the Merc looking at lease figures generally I get the feeling it might be too pricey but i may try and find out. As they seem to do a good model at the moment C220 CDI Blue Efficiency SE Edition 125 (Mouthful i know)

Is there some kind of site that would give you an idea in regards to comparing lease prices of all of these cars. Just so i know what's out of my league so to speak?

Cheers.

You can always ask your company's leasing company if they have some new cars from cancelled orders and how much they can knock off the lease costs if you take one. Might get lucky and find a BMW or find a merc with enough knocked off to be doable.

From my time they always had a few which they'd knock some money off. Obviously you wouldnt get the choice of interior cloth, paintjob, etc, but it can work out if the right car comes along.

Secondly, ask them to supply a ratebook in excel format, with details on rental, CO2, BIK figures, etc, then you can filter and search to your hearts content and see whats in your price range. There's sometimes a variant or two of a certain model thats a lot cheaper (or very little difference in pricing between the one you're looking at and the next spec up).

This is definitely handy, place I've just joined have this with approx 3000 cars on to choose from and the rate it'll cost you in real terms depending on your tax rate (20%/40% etc). So it makes it very easy to see the real cost to you as they've already done all the calculations for you with regards to the BIK etc.

Only annoying thing is you start looking and the budget just goes up and up as you look through and see "oooh xyz is only a few quid more" all the time!
