Worked for HMV? if so get in here...

Generally the working conditions is a shop, the job role is selling something, the perks are a discount? Assuming you are looking to be a general sale monkey.

It entails either being on tills and trying to sell those bloody HMV Pure cards or moving dvds from the stock room and putting them into the right pocket all day.

30% discount after 6 months service which excludes all the good things like ipods, consoles etc.

In other words... its boring and i can't wait to leave at Xmas! :)

You'll get to spend plenty of time with people that have bad haircuts, no common sense and an inability to put things in alphabetical order... Win!

I got sacked from HMV because I said on facebook that "I need a new job."

My facebook profile is private, always has been, and someone basically told my boss and had shown them my profile via his own.

It was a pretty rubbish place to work for. There's a huge pressure to sell those HMV Pure cards which aren't very good and price at £3. They'd be good if they were free, a la the Tesco club card or any other kind of store discount card, but it's difficult to sell someone something that means you have to spend at least £1000 in the space of six months in order to get any off the decent "special stuff" they have on offer.

Oh, and the points get erased after 6 months. So it's a bit of a cop out, really.

People can be decent though, and like any store job you restock etc which is dull but tolerable.

You are 31.

I've done retail - for many years infact - at one of HMV's competitors. It was a laugh at first, was never particularly bad, but it was quite clear I'd outgrown it when I left last year. It's a great job whilst you are a student but I cannot understand why somebody your age would be at all interested. You can do much better.
