ok ill try and explain this....ok here goes my main pc...which i use i have set it up to share files over the network...i could never workout how to set up using passwords so i set it up with the option no password in network and sharing....every thing works fine most of the time we can log on to certain folders on my pc i have allowed and given permission...now here is the problem recently every now and again when i try to log on from either a pc or media box..ie asus o!play it sometimes asks me for user name and password even though i have password switched off...if i restart my pc i can connect again no probs without getting asked for a user and password...has anyone got a idea why it does this as i cant work it out ....thanks

Its asking for a username and password for an admin account or an account you set up access for on the PC you're trying to connect to. Sounds like Windows isnt remember the already saved credentials, hence a reboot fixes it.

Will have to look in to it more for you :)

ermmm ive added the user everyone....as i said it works most of the time perfect ...just lately its been given me this problem...ive got it read only...

If it asks again, just put the username and password of user on that PC and tell it to save credentials for future. Atleast that way, it wont ask again :)

i dont remember setting one up...all i use is a password to get onto windows nothing else..ive tried that one it doesnt work....

Maybe add a seperate admin account on both PC's, so you can use that to connect to either one. Just use same details for both.

Also, if you hit WinKey+R and type control userpasswords2 and hit enter, it should bring up another screen and you can set it to automatically to log in to your default account on the Welcome Screen (saves having to click your account and entering details).

nooo lol if i do that my 6 years old goes on my pc ...explain the admin account a little more...even if i am logged into my normal account can you still log into one thats on the list..

Well yes, but if its password, they wont be able to get in to it. Also, if you do the control userpasswords thing, they would have to log out first in order to see that account.

thats no good....as its my main pc in my sig that 8tb of drives in ...and i use it most of the time....i have another option think ill just plug a drive in to my router as that has ready share on it....i tested it last night but the only flaw is it takes ages to transfer files over the network....

Well if you've got a NAS, that would save a lot of trouble :p

windows messed up reinstall problem fixed...

if you allow it to go to sleep or send it to sleep you could try disabling sleep / hibinate
