im just interested if anyone works the 2 to 10 shift , im starting a new job tomorrow and il be working 2 to 10 on a permenant basis , im doing a manual job , is it a good shift to work, i used to work 6 till 1 so its a real change for me. it would be nice to have some feed back thankyou ash.

Depends on the place, but after about half 4, most of the busybodies out of the offices have left, and theres less people to hassle you. Im a shift worker, and the shift isnt that bad. I suppose it depends where you work.

you start to early to do anything in the morning and finish too late to do anything in the evening.

great if you have no social life...

thanks for being honest sone, do you find it hard work,

don't do it anymore! we used to do 6-3 and 1-10. I hated both shifts to be honest and much prefer working standard 8-5. Although they did let me do a few weeks of 6-7 3 1/2 days which i thought was excellent.

Not 2-10 but i do a lot of 1-9s. Not too bad but i have to admit they do get annoying as you literally get up ,go out, do your work, come home then have a couple of hours before you go to bed then it staarts again the next day. I orefer them to getting up at 7am though.

its looking kind of negative

well it looks kind of negative at the mo, im starting this new job tomorrow so il have to see how things go. it really helps to get the lay of the land a little, thanks for all your replies.

I do it 2 days every cycle and it's my favourite shift. I get to lie in for a good while and I still have plenty of time before work to do things like go into town etc...

Mornings on the other hand suck.

Im doing a 12-10pm today. Cant see the problem. I got up at 8am this morning and done quite a bit already. Plenty of time to do stuff if you ask me..

Back in at 6am tomorrow morning till 5pm. Again, plenty of time to get things done after I finish at 5.

I am actually looking for a new job right now. Hours are not that important but the company and job itself is. Its damn hard to find a job round here that pays what im on.

Horrible shift nearly as bad as being stuck on permanant nightshift.

I work three shifts of 4:30pm to 7:30 am, have soooo much free time. Never come off this shift pattern!!

Done 2-10 before, but hated working 5 days a week :D

I used to love doing a 2-10 shift - Get up after a good nights sleep, go to work, finish at 10 and straight out on the town.

I worked it for 2 years and turned into a complete alsaholic as a result. I'd do it all again!

I used to work a back shift of 3-11, and it was much worse than night shift. My biggest problem was finding the right time to eat - when I left for work, I'd just had lunch, and by the time I got my break, the staff cafe and everything else would be shut, so I couldn't have a decent dinner.

I work 2 - 10 every now and then to cover for other colleagues and must admit it has grown on me a bit recently, good nights sleep with a couple of hours before work to get things done, doesn't leave much to do at night unless your going straight out into town or something though.

Im moving onto 8 - 4 shifts permanently soon though which is 10 times better in my opinion...

I do 2pm to 10.30pm its o.k but I dont see any friends and have very little time with my g/f in the evenings so I spend most of my weekends catching up with people in fleeting visit style. I'm looking to get normal hours so I can have my summer evenings back, I miss chillin in the garden in summer.

I've done my share of shift work in the past and didn't particularly like 2-10 especially in the summer. As this summer is a complete washout it shouldn't be too bad. Most companies alternate between 6-2 and 2-10, is there no possibility that you could do the same?
