Working at Mcdonalds.

I got made fun out of from my friends for applying and being accepted at mc d's. you get a staf card for discounted food and stuff. Unfortunately I didnt actually take the job as I got a phone call a day before I was supposed to start offering me a better paid and more suited job.

I felt abit weird walking into mc d's with a suit on mind but I guess that soon went once i stated talking to the staff, who were friendly and helpful. I was more intrested on all the pretty students you get to work around than the actual job mind ha.

End of day it might not be the best paid job but its a job, and it looks better on your cv being in work rather thasn a 6 month gap. too many people are too proud these days and think its their right to sit on their butts and let the country pay for them whist a job they think they deserve comes to them. Your doing the right thing actually earning a living regrdless of what doing.

a lot of my friends dont even have jobs, and it made me proud saying i have a job at mcdonalds rather than sitting on the dole like the rest of them

It is a good company to work for. The pay is not great, but you will have a good time and it can be hard work at times.

I was looking about applying for McDonalds the other week and their benefits for a crew member do seem good. Well, it says can include but still.

As a Crew Member, you can receive a whole host of great rewards and benefits which can include:

- 28 days paid holiday per annum
- Free private health care after three years service
- Stakeholder Pension Scheme
- Restaurant performance-related bonuses
- Vouchers awarded at service milestones
- You can exchange up to £110 per pay period for Childcare Vouchers, which is taken from gross salary, saving you tax and National Insurance
- Employee Recognition Schemes
- Annual pay reviews
- Employee Discount Card with discounts and savings from over 1,600 retailers including HMV, M&S and Sainsbury's
- Meal allowance
- Life Assurance (after 1 year service)
- Opportunities for promotion

I worked there on and off between the ages of 16 and 21..... through A-Levels and Uni (jeez - over 10 years now).

To be fair, it was a great crack.... I look back with fond memories - it can be really funny! I worked with a good bunch.... a mix of lifers, kids and part timers.

It can be greasy and a PITA with some hours.... especially the close after a really busy Saturday... but make of it what you can and always try to make a decent big mac!

Experimenting with your own home made burgers was a laugh as well.

I'd do it over some of the other jobs I've had.... working in a bloody busy bar for example

I done it for a year while at college, loved it, the job was boring and the same thing everyday, but the place was full of young people working there, so great laugh, and a night out in town was guaranteed every weekend!

Absolutely hated it. I worked there for 4 months part time last year whilst doing my AS Levels at school. Because I was part time I only got the busy shifts, so I'd get like a Saturday 12 to 9 shift with long queues the whole day, and with me being on tills it was just hell. You'd have to take maybe 5/6 orders, then call those orders, then remember all those orders, put them in the right bag, then remember all the drinks, and THEN remember who actually ordered what. Doing that for 9 hours made me want to string myself up. Also I was never properly trained for tills, my first day the "crew trainer" just complained to me how she hated working there and wanted to go home, the only way I actually learned tills was by getting it wrong. They'd also sign me into a till, then have me on drivethrough or something the whole day, then come the end of my shift they'd count my till and I'd be 2p over or something so I would have to sign a retraining slip despite the fact I hadn't actually been on my till. There was just too much expected of me, and the fact that I technically didn't need the job didn't help in terms of commitment for me, but you might be lucky and get a good McDonalds where people will back you if you on tills or you might get a job in the kitchen but I have nothing but stressful, bad memories from my time in McDs. I've had other part time jobs since and have enjoyed them all a lot more than I did McDonalds. So yeah I would never encourage any of my friends to get a job at McDonalds.

Used to work there from 87 to 93 through college and uni. I made so many friends and had some good fun while working for 3.22 an hour. Luckly when i went to high wycombe my wage got bumped up to 3.55 an hour and when i came home during holidays i was on more than the floor managers as training squad lol.

One of the guys who started just after me now works in the corporate head office doing something or other.

Being from Burnley it used to get very rough on a friday and saturday night, i've been threatened with knives, thrown over the counter, assaulted but i'd do it all again because it gave me a good work ethic and i had lots of positive experiences.

plus we had some really fine girls work there too.

I worked for the for 2.5 years previously and have just returned after leaving almost to years ago as I was made redundant. As people have said the money is the best, but the people make it worth while. A lot more employee benefits than a lot of companies too.

I know mcdonalds isn't the best job and I'd also like to include that I'm going to college aswell so not trying to make a career xD haha. Anyways I was wondering what it's like working at mcdonalds as I have been accepted as a crew member. What can I expect to do and what are your experiences with them as a company to work for? Cheers

Company or franchise ?

Company stores are good to work for. Franchise ones are hit and miss, depends if the franchisee is a tool or not (I've worked under both and my franchisee was a tool unfortunately)

Expect to need a shower after each shift as you'll go home covered in a thin film of grease every shift.

As others have said, it's not a bad job, it depends a lot on the other people you work with in the end.

DaZe is being overly negative. McD's don't penalise you for being 2p up/down on your till. There is leway in place and when you go over that, that's when you're penalised.

Also DaZe must have been working at the time of the old multi-button Panasonics. The tills are much better these days and they remember the orders for you, for the full day.

It's not all fun though. Lots to be doing even in quiet periods.

Did McD when I was at college.

Free food, good laugh, loads of shags. I found I was best suited to the back room rather than tills or grill and I had it off to a tea. Could earn good money doing evening shift as you got overtime past closing.

Working the grills is really hard work and hot.

Not sure but you've made it sound better than DaZe :P

I wouldn't knock it necessarily - tis a big organisation and at least they've got opportunities for career progression... Seriously if you use it as part time work while studying then go for their grad scheme you'd probably do quite well.

I lasted about a week when I was at college:o , my friend also worked there for two years while he was at college
