If everybody made sure they took their lunch (like in France) then no-one would have to work through it. So not only are they doing themselves a disservice but they are ruining for other people too since employers come to expect you to 'get the job done' type crap.

I don't think jas72 works through lunch break. But is still stuck at work place as not much time to go elsewhere, and not getting paid for that 30 minutes whilst there.

There are good companies and bad companies same as any industry. I took a big pay cut to get into game development but it's worth it for doing a job that's interesting and you care about.

The best part about working in games is *definitely* reading forums and being told by armchair developers how utterly incompetent and useless you are at your job

Heh you just ignore that, the positive feedback and seeing lots of people actually enjoying your game is priceless. I certainly never got that in banking
