One of my mates on vent has just been saying about how much work are messing her about if any one could put any light on the below so i can pass it on would be greatful.

Contracted to work 18hours per week but last week was given only 14.
Not been told her shifts till last minute and at time of this post she hasnt been told this weeks shifts.

Im not an employment expert but if she doesnt like it start looking for a new job. She should be thankfull she has a job to go to and a paycheque every month to look forward to.

You've not given us much to go on.
I assume it's a part time job with such a small number of hours.

With no other information to go on, I'd say that somebody working such a small amount of hours and then not being given them all strikes me as most likely the employer has too many staff, which is odd considering the current work climate.

Is she the only one? Or are others having reductions?

YES, she should be thankful she has a job and should therefore let her employers walk all over her

think its only her atm but i thought they had to give her 18hours if its stated in her contract

You still haven't given us much information.

It also depends on exactly what her contract says. I assume she is doing some kind of job where she isn't automatically paid the 18 hours and she has to log them to be paid, or else she wouldn't be complaining.

as said above it all depend son the job. I was just talking in generall.

If its a job at maccies then its a complete different argument to being a part time office worker. Maccies you expect to treated like ****e.

I'd recommend she seeks clarification from her employer what the expected lead time is to be notified of shift patterns. Reach an agreement e.g. at least 7 days notice.

IMO it's not on for an employer to consistently require staff to work shifts at the last minute, it's ok every now and then (covering for sickness etc) but not as general working practice. It makes it very difficult for the employee to plan the rest of their life around work. As an example my wife works shifts and in theory gets 6 weeks notice, although it's often much less in practice, and even then it can be awkward for planning our social lives in advance.
