Hi,
I have a job interview in 2 weeks time for a position in Amsterdam, i cant see myself getting it truth be told, and tbh, its not the worst thing that could happen as 4 days after the interview i start a new job over here.

Anyway, i cant get any strait answers about this, but what would i have to do/arrange to work in Holland?
As i understand it, the company ive got the interview 'help' and put me up in a hotel for a month/get me the 'first 30% untaxed' bonus thing.

But what about everything else? Work permits, notifications to banks over here (do i need a bank over there or can i use mine here?), etc;

Any and all advice would be more than welcome. :)

Thanks in advance all. :).

on a more serius note theres no nice girls in amsterdam due to them all being in the windows so if you actualy wanted to get a GF over there it would be very hard. On the other hand if you can afford €50 every time you want some or €30 if you want some with a disgusting fat ugly one it your place to move to.

Your in the EU, all you need to do is get a security number (our NI) once you have a job and are living in Holland.

Speak to the Dutch embassy, they will tell you this.

What a load of tripe. There's only a couple of rows of windows, and A LOT of them aren't even Dutch. Many gorgeous dutchies in Dam, very nice girls too.

Thank you for the first useful reply in this thread.:)

So i take it that i would go over there, and pretty pronto go to the relevent office in Amsterdam to get this sorted?

What about banking? Phones?
Do i have to notify banks, other companies like my phone company that my 'billing address' is now in another country? Or can i leave that be as my 'UK address' is still as is?
Would i need to setup a Bank account over there? or one of those xpat ones? Or could i just have the money payed into my UK account?
+anything else worth knowing that ive missed.

Nonsnse, having lived there for about a year, I can honestly say there are loads of goreous women in Holland.

It depends what your plans are, if you are moving for the foreseeable future you simply cancel everything UK based and set up new accounts for banking, phones etc.. it will be cheaper in the long run.

If you are just going over to work and still have your permanent address in the UK then I wouldn't tell companies of your change of address, as mail will end up getting forwarded to Amsterdam after you leave.

The best thing is to speak with the either the embassies and get everything straight, but when I did it I just got my security number and everything else pretty much fell into place.

Also, watch out for landlords ripping you off. HUGE problem in Amsterdam is landlords shafting foreign tenants.

I'd be working over there full time, but the idea would be to come back to the UK every fortnight or so. So i should be ok leaving things as they are?

What about banking? Would i be better getting a bank account over there so i dont have to pay euro->pound conversion rates on my credit cards?

Im hoping to find an agency and go through them, hopefully.

Can people move the cliched Amsterdam stuff out of this thread please. Its not helpful in the least and it isnt amusing.

Pretty sure that is standard practice around the world. It most definitely happens here in Prague (Czech Republic) often 3 or 4 times the price the locals would pay. Happened in Moscow a lot too.

However if the company is willing to help or take someone local with you then it's easier to see if you are being done for or not.

Also maybe tell the tax office your out of the country for a forseeable time , I filled some form out when I went travelling not sure what it was for but they said it would be better for me. sure it was something 85 form. I know you don't have to , but makes it easier when you come back to work according to the tax office!
