Can you dumbell bench on your bed? stupid question I know as it restrics the movement a little, but I am trying to decide if I could get a decent wokout by just buying a dumbell set with about 70/80 kg of weights.
Firstly reccomend me a cheap set of dumbells and weights, and a bench If I really do need one (cheap as possible guys)

I was thinking

back - bent over one arm rows
chest - Bench on bed
Triceps - scullcusher,2 hands on one dumbell
shoulders standing military type dumbel thing.

So here is a real challenge for you guys, I want a bulking routine using nothing but a heavy set of dumbells. One of the 3/4 days can be in the gym as I normaly go to my local on a saturday morning,so can get squats in there, but I am going to be running a motorbike and a car so I am cost cuting and tired of paying £30 to go the gym which is a 15 minute drive away.

I suppose I can buy a bench if I really need to, but I am very space restricted!

Oh and by the way It needent be a begginers program, I have been bulking for about 12 months, and about 6months properly and have made reasonable gains for a skinny boy!

I presume the answer will be join a cheaper gym, but just testing the water :D

Personally I don't think it's a good idea to do presses with any real weight (dumbbell pressing you'll be using significantly less weight than with a barbell, but even so) on a bed.
The motion will be badly restricted and you might end up doing yourself an injury due to lack of stability and support (and if you get up to 40+kg per dumbbell you might break the bed too :)).

A cheap folding bench might be what you need, they don’t take much space folded and resting against the wall, especially if you’re just using dumbbells and won’t have to worry about other issues with it.

inclining bench
dumbells
barbell
lots of weight.

that be all you need at home to get a damn good work out on a budget :D

i wouldnt recommend pressing on your bed. it will encourage very poor form and plenty of cheating from the springs in the matress.

never thaght of using a ball, could I still keep my form good, surely It wouldent be good for bigger weight (I do 24kg in each hand now). what do we think?
Also which dumbels to get, what cheap onine shops are there.

My swiss ball is rated at 300kg.

It will take some getting used to but it's a good cheap option.

It will also improve your core stability at the same time. Excellent piece of equipment!

got a gym ball rated at 300kg, 2 dumbell bars with spinlocks and 65kg worth of weight. that should keep me busy for a while, probably have to get a bit more weight at some point but it should do me for now! anyone fancy a go at a 3/4 day balanced bulking workout I can do with these and a gym ball. most weeks will involve 1 day in the gym, so I can get some squats and proper benching in that day.

Old thread back from the dead. Anyone work out at home much? Is it possible to do instead of a gym? I was thinking I could pretty much do a lot of my excersises using a bench and weights at home. What about...

Dips: Anyone built a simple frame?

Squats: Anyone built a simple frame?

Lat pull downs: What can replace this, wide gripped pull ups?

Pull ups: I've seen those things you can put at the top of a doorway but are they strong enough?

I'd love to be able to avoid the gym all together in terms of cost and time taken out of my week going there.

Lots of training at home threads that have more info than this one, do another search and see what you find :)

LMAO - they only sell junk which any serious lifter will outgrow within a few months, waste of money, if your serious about weightlifting or bodybuilding, get a gym membership or buy the proper stuff from fitness superstore

Is there much difference between 55 cm ball and 65 cm when it comes to work outs?

Just asking cuz I found a great deal on a 55 cm on a popular jungle e-tailer :D

gumtree or ebay - second hand bench from a reputable manufacturer.

reputable manufacturers are body solid, gymratz, etc.

stay away from york, golds gym and any other cheap mainstream stuff.

a swiss ball is okay, but if your lifting some heavy weight, it could kill you if you slip/slide, etc. i would go for safety and personal health over cheap way of doing things everyday.

I'm just settling with 1arm floor presses at the moment and mixing them up with plenty of body weight and weighted body weight exercises for my chest at the moment as I've no room for a bench - seriously the missus would kill me :P
Only up to 25kg at the moment as I'm slowly getting the weight back up after trapping my sciatic nerve on my right hand side over xmas due to me hip falling further back on my right hand side.
