Newbie to Macs here.

I have my macbook pro plugged into my desktop monitor. I am keeping the laptop open so I can have two displays.

For the life of me I cannot find how to make the monitor the PRIMARY display (i.e. the display that has the dock etc on) and the laptop the secondary display.

There must be an option somewhere. Can anyone help?

This was not obvious to me, although it should have been because the message in the Display preference clearly says it.

Go to Spotlight > “Displays” > Click “Arrangement” tab

Drag the thing horizontal menu bar from one display to the external display and viola the menu bar appear on the external monitor!
