Might be a pretty noobish EU question, but if my girlfriend wanted to move from Sweden to the UK - what would she need, if anything since Sweden is an EU country to continue working (own business) and living here.

Cheers!

No, as long as she registers herself and gets a tax code (and the NI ofc).

I did the same, but coming from Holland. It's amazing how easy it is to move between EU countries.

Cool, thanks - do you have any links for registration?
(sorry for lazy Valkia)

Yeah I just had to get a NI number. It was a lot of faffing though as you need to have proof of address for everything. With this you just phone them up to arrange interview and then you will be posted your NI number at the end.
Also bank account is important which again was faffing because I didn't have any bills etc at the time with my name. Just choose who you wanna go with and book appointment.
When she has those 2 she can just apply to any job and hope for the best.

That is the easy part, the not so easy part comes from if you dont know anyone here really / missing home but after a while it gets easier. The freezing cold houses however I wont ever get used to...

edit// I was expecting a lot of paper work tbh when I moved and was surprised how easy it was. Just 2 things.

As long as the UKIP stay away then she just needs an NI number

Nah she's the right sort of European, they'd make allowances for them should they force an exit from the EU, it's those foreign looking types from Romania etc.. that get UKIP's jimmies rustled.

Didn't UKIP promise "no discrimination"? A Swede, a Mexican or Romanian would have to go through the same process to work in the UK.

Perhaps they did, I'm not overly familiar with UKIPs policies tbh... I was just stereotyping them as being full of closet racists.

I can confirm what people above said. All I needed was a NI number. And a bank account.

With the NI number you don't really need any bills etc., but I had trouble obtaining a current bank account (even though I had a student one for the past 3 years), as they kept saying I need 3 years of residence in UK (after requesting to speak with the branch manager and asking her if they told rich Russian oligarchs the same reason and not giving them a bank account they accepted my uni years as residence). However when my gf came over as well, they got her a bank account no questions asked, all I did was phone the council and told them there are now 2 adults in the house and to put both of us on the tax bill. With that piece of paper and me with her at the appointment at the bank, they didn't hesitate at all.

Absolutely right, but if she owns her own business then i see she'd be welcomed with open arms as an entrepreneur.

Yeah that only says more about you then anything else
