Hi,

A friend was recently asking about what I was doing regarding a pension and after some chatting it appears that his place of work which employe's around 70-80 people doesn't appear to have a workplace pension scheme in place. He's heard nothing about it, hasn't been asked if he wants to opt-out and there is nothing on his payslip about it.

Am I correct in thinking for a company of that size the pension should already be in place with employee's and employer paying in to it?

Generally it should have been done by now unless they have a specific reason for their "staging date" to have been pushed back.

You generally need the companies PAYE number to check the exact date. He should certainly approach his employer about it as the fines for non compliance are huge.

Swindon Town football club was fined £22k from memory for non compliance etc.
