So you're advocating zero contact, it's football, not pansyball, contact is allowed.

By rights, their goal scorer should be off due to an ott celebration.

No, but there's a difference with a tackle from the front and from the back. By your rules speed wouldn't matter as much because they could just kick every faster player down from behind.

LOL open your blinkers mate...the ref has been absolutely atrocious...giving soft yellows for normal tackles...now Germany have to be extra careful with every tackle.

Worst refereeing so far in this WC....this ref clearly hasnt a clue....****ing muppet the ref is.

Anything but soft tackles imo.

Shame Germany didn't score that one!

can you guys stop agreeing with the crap commentators.

it was 3 tackles from behind where he never got the ball on any of them, he was also warned. it was a sending off.

if your going to tackle from behind you need to get the ball and make sure everyone sees you getting the ball.

tackling from behind isnt allowed.

Thank god Colin Murray isn't in the studio for this one. The muppet constantly called Vincent Enyeama the Nigerian keeper, Onyemu yesterday, I can't believe that nobody corrected him either, he insisted on calling him Onyemu over and over.

If the score remains like this, it could be the shocker turn around of the tournament, considering serbia lost 0-1 to ghana, and considering how well germany did the other day.

And there's a difference between a genuine attempt for the ball when chasing back, and aiming to take the player out. You could see in both of Kloses bookings, he was chasing back to get the ball and they were genuine attempts to get the ball.

He hasn't slid in to get it, he's stayed up right, hell, the first one he was just running behind him, didn't even try to tackle him but very minorly caught his foot.

There is no denying this ref is the worst this tournament, and if he was in the league, he'd have had a bottle thrown at him by now.

I think someone should throw a Vuvazela at him. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

Knock him out, and get the stupid things banned. =P

you obviously dont know the rules. tackles from behind arent allowed.

it doesnt matter if your going for the player or the ball. if you tackle from behind and dont get the ball its a yellow, sometimes red.

It doesn't matter, tackling from behind is not allowed. Regardless of the intentions. I don't know what kind of commenting you guys are listening to, analysts and the commentator agreed on the yellows here too.

I completely disagree, the ref is fine.

If all referees were as strict as this guy you'd get 10+ cards per match, for most of his bookings there was negligable contact.

Thus it is now up to the referee to decide whether any tackle whatever angle it comes from 'endangers the safety of an opponent'. All refs will penalise the tackle from behind because this has a high risk factor. You can come in from the side it is not against the rules.

In full Law 12 states:
A direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any of the following six offences in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:
kicks or attempts to kick an opponent
trips or attempts to trip an opponent
jumps at an opponent
charges an opponent
strikes or attempts to strike an opponent
pushes an opponent

A direct free kick is also awarded to the opposing team if a player
commits any of the following four offences:
tackles an opponent to gain possession of the ball, making contact with the opponent before touching the ball
holds an opponent
spits at an opponent
handles the ball deliberately (except for the goalkeeper within his own penalty area).

Heh, I was a defender, I know the rules plenty well enough. Yes, tackles from behind aren't allowed, and i'm not denying they were fouls, because they were. But to give a yellow for the very first one is just anal, and it means he needs to book for the rest. Standard is to warn them for the first 2 or 3, and if it's persistant, then book them, another warning or 2 then send them off. Why didn't he book the Serbia scorer, jumping into the crowd/ott celebrations are also bookable.

If we don't see a red this half i'll genuinely be shocked.

i disagree for booking players for celebrating, they arent harming anyone or interfering with play.

its the world cup, of course people like to go crazy with the celebrations. if i scored at the world cup i would do an elaborate celebration.
