it is daunting yes, but the odds are better on things. it takes some getting used to. i just back things i dont lay.
 
Quick question for the maths guru's on the boards:

I backed Crespo (€20) to be top goalscorer before the tournament start at 25/1. He's now gone into 8.6/1.

I could lay Crespo now to guarantee me a profit now but how do I work out what the optimum lay amount would be to get maximum profit?

I assume there's a formula for this?
 
Its quite simple really,

20 euros on him to win at 25/1 = 500euros
20 euros layed (will get you ** money back if he doesnt)
same 20 layed (and he does) = 14/2 x 20 = 150 euros

Max profit, 350euros, or your money back.

Is it really worth scwabbling over 20euros to lose 150.
I say dont bother, ok its a free 350euros if he does, and nothing if he doesnt. That depends on how much you care about losing.


I won on the argie game today, and hopefully my treble of argie/holland/mexico is coming thtough, and i will win a princely sum :D

Your not too far off there. Check out the hedge calculator on www.oddschecker.com, it calculates the exact lay amount!

I'm €20 on the same treble. Fingers crossed. I'd expect Mexico to win but if things get hairy I'll lay Mexico!

I think i must have confused what u were saying then, because you will only lay to make the money you lost by betting on him, e.g 20euros, anymore and your cutting into your winnings if he does.
So 20 is the max you want to lay just to hedge the money to payed on the first bet.

Should have gone down the bookies really, i could only do the treble on betfair, i wanted to carry on with Italy, Chechz, Portugal. That will be my treble for 2morow, with bets on each to win also.

Chepstow 18:30 : Outright Betting Grand Prix 8/11 Won

That returns £15


Mexico V Angola : First Team To Score Mexico 1/3 Open Open 14.73
Chepstow 19:30 : Outright Betting Allegretto 2/5 Won

If mexico score 1st that return £28

And for somethin for interest :

Mexico V Angola : First Goal Scorer Fonseca, Francisco 5/1 Open Open 1.25

If mexico score first and win, i'll have about £45 to go on Portugal, Italy and Czechs tomorrow @ 5/2. If that wins, i might just bung the lot on argentina to win the whole thing.
