world Cup oversaturation...

What gets my goat is the schools getting in on the act in a disruptive way. Last thursday at 9 oclock in the evening my wife told me that there was a letter from school saying that kids could wear football kits for school next day.
As my kids dont have a football strip i was driving round all the 24 hour ASDA's and TESCO'S trying to find football related t-shirts and shorts. Found a T-shirt for my boy but nothing for my daughter so I had to keep her off school that day. Bleedin pathetic I was tempted to go and see the headmistress to vent my spleen !

Odd really as this World Cup seems to have had the least amount of hysteria that I have known.
Seen a few cars with England flags on etc, but no where near the hysteria of years gone by!
Popped into the city center last night expecting carnage but it was quiet!?
Put it down to a combination of folks not having money to burn at the mo and the realization that England have no chance compared to recent tournaments...

1 month every 4 years so not really. You would have to be a totally miserable git to not like it even if you don't like football.

The thing is most people don't have a problem with 1 month of football every 4 years. The thing that people hate, as stated in the op, is months and months of advertising before hand, and companies trying to squeeze the world cup into everything they do.
If it was a simple case of people being excited about a month of football every 4 years, then that'd be fine
I just can't fathom how anyone can get annoyed about things such as advertising on, for instance, a Mars bar wrapper. Just open the Mars bar, eat it and then throw the wrapper in the bin! The world cup themed wrapper is just a non-issue and no reason to get all uppity over.
Mars is an official sponsor of the FA, so considering they have that official sponsorship, it's probably fair that they get to use that association.
What I was getting at in my post was more the TV commercials which are not sponsors and have nothing to do with football... ie associating themselves with the World Cup and football isn't actually going to sell any more of their product, but for some reason they have done it anyways...
ie We Buy Any Car, British Gas...
I'll add more when I've next seen some on tv.
I'm not into football per se, but as this only occurs once every 4 years I can overlook the saturation, as indeed I will for the Olympics.
What I really hate, though is the Wimbledon saturation that is to come which happens every year. Wall to wall tennis is soooooooo boring.

The difference is his dislike, which is the wall to wall coverage which is reaching saturation point.
He then gives it more coverage.
