To be fair, Spain are regarded as a Latin country, as are parts of South America. He just made a fundamental mistake is all :)

I didn't think anyone said Australia played better, and after a quick re-skim of the thread, I'm right.

You should get your facts straight before you spout off about people lacking knowledge.

lol - your ignorance amuses me. The Italians outplayed the Australians - the red card was NEVER a red card though the penalty decision was a tough call.

What goes around comes around. Italy had it very tough 4 years ago with mind boggling decisions which sent them tumbling out of that world cup.

Oh - and no other team EVER tries to get a penalty, ever - right?

As mentioned in other posts, the defender was a fool to go down like that.

The thing is though, that everyone acts like its just the Italians.
But people dont see that. They see England and their favourite teams as being perfect, when they are far from it. Every country is just as guilty as each other. And if we wanted to get pedantic, i'd find it easy to argue that Spain & Germany were by far the worst offenders.

And if people actually watched the game properly, they'd see that until the sending off, that the Italians didnt try anything, it was a very spirited game. From both sides.

Italy got through today due to their tactical superiority over their opponents. I think their diving has been in line with every other team in this tournament. To say they cheat their way through all the time like what many of the posters on this thread hav stated is jus stupid!!
 
I'm not getting into the whole "Italians are cheats" debate because England fans need to wait until their own national side stop diving before going on about anyone else.

The penalty was dubious, but Materazzi despite being a thug and a dirty ****, deserved ONLY a yellow card for the foul. I don't care how we win matches as long as we win them.

We played well and better than Australia but it is imperative that we improve vastly if we expect to go much further. The lack of confidence from Toni - who isn't used to playing on such a big stage as he hasn't even played in Europe with Fiorentina - is worrying. Lippi is making mistakes (Iaquinta instead of Inzaghi?!) but he now has time to learn from them.
 
An example was shown in the coverage, about Heinz's tackle. Where he was last man, and made a far worse tackle, but didnt get a thing (afaik, might be a yellow, but definately not a strait red).

I'm rather flattered by that. :)

Sorry my emotions got the better of me earlier, its just there's so much Italy bashing going on.

For a team who have only conceded 1 goal so far this tournament they're really kopping it from all sides. With the exception of De Rossi's challenge I struggle to find justification.
 
I think because the underdog came very close to causing a major upset you get a lot of dissapointment in the thread. The fashion in which Italy achieved their win made it even worse. Yes they were the better team, anyone with half a brain could see that, but in the end another ref was conned and we were deprived of another 30 mins of football.

I posted earlier this morning about how people should lay off the refs until their players stop cheating, every team has cheated in some way, but the Italians have done it to greatest effect today.
 
The thing is Tru it was not the worst penalty ever given. Look at the one Ghana had against the USA!

I really dont think Grosso cheated today. Neill just got in his way. Grosso was clever and got the penalty! It was not a dive!

He did just what any player would do for any other nation so some of your stupid, idiotic and sterotypical remarks like "The majority of us have said that the Italians are filthy cheats, which is indisputable" really are out of order!
 
I haven't denied that everybody else cheats too, but Italy are the biggest cheats of the last few days.

Italy would have won the game in extra time and we'd all be going on about how tough they are to beat, but the boy made a meal of the challenge (although Neill was asking for it), and here we are, another Italian football swindle. I'm sorry that you're so offended by the remark, but I think it was acceptable.

Did you not watch the match last night? Van Bommel going to ground with the slightest of touches from Figo. Thats what you call play acting!

Everyone does it Tru. And if anything Italy do it far less than south American and African teams!!

Italy with 10 men today just kept on playing the correct way! They didnt try to break up play or time waste!

I just cant see where you are coming from!
 
OK, we're crossing wires here. I'm not saying Italy are bigger cheats than anyone else, and I'm not saying that no-one else cheats. I am saying that Italy have commited the most effective act of football deception out of the last few games.

The aftermath of that dive is in this thread, so I can see how it seems that everyone is picking in italy. It will all be forgotten about by tomorrow and people will see the tournament is better for Australia not being here.

You can't see where I'm coming from because you're reading stuff that isn't there, I really don't have an axe to grind with Italy. I was just dissapointed that all the tension and excitment was taken from the game by another bloke falling over when he could have stayed on his feet.

Tru your last post makes perfect sense and I agree with it!

Its a far cry from the "the Italians are filthy cheats" remark you posted earlier which i really didnt think had any proper justification!
