World of Starcraft?

A Blizzard community representative has confirmed on the US World of Warcraft forums that a number of jobs advertised by the company are for a new MMO project that isn't connected to World of Warcraft.

The most obvious title to me is a Starcraft MMO, especially given its popularity in the Far East and the hype that will obviously start. :eek: There are hardly any decent sci-fi MMO games at the moment and I think Blizzard is on to a winner if they bring something different to a market saturated with fantasy.

Then again with the problems that Star Trek Online has been having they might be planning on taking over development. ;)
 
Diablo doesnt have a rich enough story, i hope it is world of starcraft, would make sense considering they are releasing a new RTS based on the universe....probably to get interest up in it before they announce an MMO
 
Also, a Diablo MMO would have to rival WoW and bring something new to the genre. If it isn't different enough then people won't move from WoW to Diablo so I think from a business point of view it makes sense to make the new game sci-fi.
 
Aren't EA-Bioware (how sad to type that name :( ) supposed to be working on a new Star Wars MMO? If true then things are hotting up in the sci-fi MMO market, though I'd expect Activision-Blizzard (again how sad :( ) to blow them all out of the water.
 
I would prefer Starcraft rather than Diablo. Theres too many fantasy mmorpg's! Whatever happens, I hope they do something a bit different tho and not just a WoW clone in a different setting.

All speculation at the moment and it's looking more like a KotoR game than pre-CU Star Wars Galaxies. It's rumoured that the reason why SOE won't bring in pre-CU servers for SWG is that Bioware bought the rights to the code. I expect any KotoR game to be dumbed-down version of SWG though since EA-Bioware will want mass-market appeal that the NGE was supposed to bring in.

With Warhammer Online and Age of Conan coming out next year as well I doubt that Blizzard will bring out yet another fantasy MMO.

TBH it will be another WoW clone in a different setting, most MMORPGs are. I hope bioware does something new. Would love to see a MMO with similar game mechanics to mass effect. Won't happen though :(
 
I doubt it'll be Starcraft... Making two Starcraft games simultaneously? I hope not... No, out of Starcraft and Diablo, Diablo seems more likely. Even then, though, most of the developers that created the original Diablo games have left Blizzard.

They could but when they've got so many fans of another game why bother trying to start another IP until you've milked the ones you've already established?

That's why WoW was so popular, it brought the Warcraft fans into the MMO market rather than traditional MMO players.

If they're only just hiring developers for the MMO then it'll take a few years before it comes out so the hype for Starcraft II will be dying down and people will be looking for another game.

Can't see why they wouldn't. They brought Warcraft III out with the Tauren, undead etc. This set the scene for WoW to follow and waddaya know Tauren undead etc were playable races.

Maybe they'll do the same with Starcraft II

Makes sense doesnt it? No doubt it would be a massive success just like WoW.
 
There is definatly a Diablo game coming up. I'm 90% sure. Sorry but I do not have a viable source at hand although I would say from the top of my head www.diabloii.net is your best bet.

Diablo 3 has been thrown about for years and went pretty quiet but in the last 6months (and at e3) it was brought up again and some might not there were people working on a project at blizz under some code name that sparked talk on the internet.

All I can say is there will be a Diablo game I am sure of that. I don't know if it will be the MMO you talk of though, I would have originally thought it would be a follow up previous to the other 2.

Personally Starcraft MMO would be nice as it is futureistic. But I would love Diablo too. Eaither for me please!
 
Yeah I think it would most likely be Starcraft. Diablo has a similarish setting as WoW so not much point making that just yet seen as so many people still play WoW.

No doubt Starcraft 2 will allow them to relatively easily stick out Warcraft 4...im hoping haha!

But yeah, whatever they make no doubt it will be good.
