regardless of the graphics settings and the resolution, the frame rate sometimes drops to about 20fps. it mainly does this in shattrath city. whats confusing me is that i get the same fps on 1980x1080 with all the settings on max as i do with all the setting on low (800x600) could it be my pc causing this or could it be my 512kbps connection  Thanks

ok then doesn't really help, seriously though has anyone got any ideas why i have this problem

I think they're trying to say disable the AGEIA PHYSX CARD.

E4600, 2GB Ram, HD 3870. Vista 64-bit and my WoW is fine.

Go into sound options in WoW and make sure the correct sound card is selected.

Sorry that was a bit of an unfair post. Have you checked all your video settings that you keep constant regardless of what resolution you run at? As far as I know the PhysX card is not supported by WoW and "should" not intefere. As you mentioned Shattrath I take it you have pld this game a fair bit, is this the first time it has happened? If it was ok before, what did you change for this to happen?

I've never seen bad connection cause low fps in wow. Wow will run just fine on dial-up so it doesn't need much bandwidth. Do you have some mod installed that could be causing it?

Good point actually. Any outdated mods installed? Also, please check the amount of memory is being used by the mods by hovering your mouse over the latency bar.

Thanks i'll check the mods , ive always had this problem with and without the physics card enabled, and only in densely populated areas :( it sounds like a loading/processing problem still i'll download the mods again see if that helps

I've got an identically-specced system (minus the physics card) and I get into the low-mid 20s in Shattrath as well. I suspect it's just:
a. always crowded so drawing lots of polygons
b. badly programmed with hidden scenery still being calculated
