I know its getting on a bit, but it was the last good worms game. Does anybody run this on XP with modern hardware? (E.g Dual/quad core, 8xxx Gfx etc.)

Since i built my new rig, I am unable to play this game. It loads OK, but when you start a game, the worms appear on screen, but no maps. The worms are just perched mid air on a black background.

Anyone else having this issue? I thought it could be to do with high FPS, but i have forced v-sync on in NCP (no option in game) but to no avail. Thought about setting affinity to one core to see if that helped but this game will not alt+tab.

I still play this on-line with friends so if anyone can help, it would be appreciated.

Google came up empty, and any WWP forums seem long gone.
 
You'd be better off with Worms Armageddon as it's still being patched occasionally an definitely works with xp, and even vista. I'm pretty sure wwp works with xp too though, do you have the sp1 patch (I think that's what it was called) from http://wwp.team17.com ? If it doesn't work try pressing insert a few times to change detail level as it might at least be a workaround.

As for forums the team17 forum is probably the best bet for technical help. You could post on my website (http://www.blamethepixel.com) but I wouldn't expect a response - at least not a useful one :p

Thanks for the quick response. It worked no problem on my old P4 XP rig, so i know XP is not the problem.

I also have it over the LAN at work, all on XP (Ssshhhhh :D)

I had forgotten about the insert button changing the detail level. I will give it a try. Thanks for the links also.

I remmeber having to patch my WWP to get it working on my old PC... cant remember the patch or anything!

Ive got the game here, may give it a go in a min...
 
Worms Armageddon is good, its highly active on wormnet more so than wwp. It is patched by a guy who has the source code that team17 gave him to support the game and will later have all the features of wwp and then some. I like WA cos of the png color maps feature and the resolutions it can do.
 
Thanks for the help. No luck getting it working properly. It seems to function fine, just with messed up gfx.

No matter, looks like Armageddon might be better for me, especially if it now supports higher resolutions. WWP was never going to look that great at 1024x768 on a 24" monitor anyway :D

I`ll see if i can pick it up from the bargain bins. ;)
