my raptor is much more noisy than before when processing tasks, the grinding noise it makes is quite significant. i refirmatted it and did a fresh install of windows.

i ran western digital disgnostics and ran their test which it passed and have set the paging file to zero to make the RAM do some of the work.

Can you please advise?

You've really done about as much as you can to be honest. It's unlikely that WD would accept the disk for an RMA without the diags failing although it might be worth asking.

Just make sure you've got everything critical backed up.

Check the mounting screws - if they've worked loose you might be getting more resonance through your case which would make it sounds a lot noisier - if you want to rule that out, take it out your case and put them on a rubber/neoprene sheet and see if it's any quieter.

wow it's amazing you have said this, since when i fitted the drive into my new case recently i only screwed it into the left side not the right (same for floppy and CD drives). I was unable to take off the right panel of the case cos this seemed to make the motherboard tray to come off and the mobo was already installed

I think I installed the various parts into the case in the wrong order

Then again the case is a weird pain in the rear end. It is the acrylic, totally transparent case you can buy on that darned online auction if you type in under search "acrylic case"

You're really smart cavemanoc, they should give you the nobel prize

I really hate the old case designs where you have to disassemble everything to get to the little screws! I can't wait to get one of the new ones with side mounted drive bays and those slider attachments that screw onto the drive so you can just slide them in and out. Never really thought about those acrylic ones - what's it like overall - you got some blinged up lights on it? (photos... ;) )
